Meet Ali Demircan
Ali Demircan is a Toronto based community leader, public safety advocate, and organizer known for building practical partnerships across diverse communities and delivering results where they are needed most. His leadership is grounded in lived experience, disciplined service, and a belief that public trust is earned through action, not words.
A survivor of the Danforth shooting, Ali transformed personal tragedy into sustained public advocacy for safer communities. He has worked closely with families, community organizations, and policymakers to advance conversations and reforms around gun violence prevention, community safety, and youth support. His contributions to national dialogue on public safety include engagement around Bill C-21, where he brought forward community perspectives shaped by real lived experience.
In recognition of his community service and civic leadership, Ali was awarded the King Charles III Coronation Medal.
Ali currently serves as the President of the Federation of Canadian Turkish Associations, where he leads national coordination of cultural, social, and community initiatives across Canada. Under his leadership, the federation has expanded youth programs, cultural initiatives, community partnerships, and civic engagement efforts that connect communities with institutions at the municipal, provincial, and federal levels. His work focuses on turning community energy into structured, outcome oriented programs that strengthen belonging and participation.
Over the years, Ali has built working relationships with community leaders, faith groups, nonprofits, and elected officials from different political backgrounds. He is respected for his ability to bring people to the same table, focus on common goals, and move discussions from ideas to implementation.
Ali’s approach to leadership is simple:
-
Service before status
-
Accountability before politics
-
Results before rhetoric
Scarborough Southwest reflects the Canada Ali believes in. Diverse, hardworking, family oriented, and full of potential. His commitment is to represent every neighbour with fairness, discipline, and respect, and to ensure that the community’s voice is present where decisions are made.
Above all, Ali is a father and a neighbour. His work is motivated by a desire to help build communities where families feel safe, supported, and proud to belong.
